ILIGAN CITY –– Former Senator JV Ejercito said he would try his luck for a Senate seat if conditions favor it.
“I have an unfinished business. If given the opportunity, I would want to come back,” Ejercito told a press conference in Cagayan de Oro City where he is attending the national convention of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Ejercito served as a senator from 2013 to 2019. During the 2019 midterm polls, he placed 13th in the senatorial race that saw his brother, former Senator Jinggoy Estrada, also running. Estrada placed 15th in the race.
Ejercito’s inability to win a Senate seat was widely attributed to Estrada’s presence in the same race.
“Sad to say, there is a family problem,” Ejercito said, alluding to his unresolved tiff with Estrada over the 2019 election.
Ejercito said that if he has the chance to return to the Senate, he would focus on overseeing the implementation of the Universal Health Care (UHC) law, which he shepherded into enactment in early 2019.
“I would like to see to it that the UHC is properly implemented, including the cleansing of the Philhealth (Philippine Health Insurance Corporation),” he explained.
He also said that he would like to see more improvement in the implementation of the health facilities development program.
