MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Friday thanked the newly-formed “1Sambayan” led by retired Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio for considering him as a possible candidate to challenge the current administration in the 2022 election, but stressed that amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he has no time for politics at the moment.

“Well, una, thank you sa kanila. I’m honored and thankful to the organizing committee for giving me such honor to be included in those list na pwede nilang maconsider,” Moreno said in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel.

“It’s quite unfair to our viewers, especially Manilans to talk about politics for the remainder of minutes in this show because we continue to really address now the surge on the numbers of infections. I’m just thankful. I don’t want to entertain anymore, any politics for now. I think there will be time for that,” he added.

Other possible candidates 1Sambayan is considering are Vice President Leni Robredo, Sen. Nancy Binay, Sen. Grace Poe, and former Sen. Antonio Trillanes.

The coalition’s convenors said they are looking for possible candidates based on the following criteria: clean track record, “upright” stand on key issues, platforms and winnability.
