ACT party-list wants arrest of assistant HS principal in Butuan City probed
MANILA, Philippines — ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro on Thursday said that she with the Makabayan bloc is planning to file a resolution in the House of Representatives to probe the arrest for attempted homicide of a high school assistant principal in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.
“For sure, paga-aralan ng ating legal counsel yung mga charge dito sa PNP (Philippine National Police)… at sa bahagi ng ACT Teachers party-list, maghahain tayo ng House resolution para kondenahin ito at para maimbestigahan din kasama ang Makabayan bloc,” Castro said in a press conference organized by the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT)
(For sure, our legal counsel will be studying the charges to be filed against the PNP. And in part of the ACT Teachers party-list, along with the Makabayan bloc, we will file a House resolution to condemn and investigate the matter.)
This comes after San Vicente High School assistant principal Lai Consad was arrested by intelligence operatives of the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) and the PNP on Wednesday Karapatan Caraga said.
Consad also serves as the secretary-general of ACT-Caraga chapter, Karapatan said.
A report from the PNP-Caraga read that Consad is wanted for attempted homicide, as she was allegedly involved in the attack and shooting of Private First Class Col. Junrel Cornelio and Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) Auxiliary Emiliano Sajol, Jr.—both members of the 29th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army—during a combat patrol operation in Santiago, Agusan del Norte last November 2020.
The report also said Consad served as an urban party committee member for the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) in Caraga.
‘Basic red-tagging’
But Raymond Basilio, the secretary-general of ACT, dismissed the PNP-Caraga’s claims.
“Nakakatawa ‘yan kasi ang kanilang kaso na nakalagay sa kanilang warrant of arrest ay attempted homicide,” he said.
(That is funny, the only thing they indicated was that she was wanted for attempted homicide.)
“‘Yan ay wala sa kanilang warrant na sinasabi at ngayon kung ano na ang sinasabing mga affiliation ni Teacher Lai,” he added. “This is just a basic red-tagging to justify their arrest sa isang inosenteng sibilyan.”
