Navotas joins 3 other Metro Manila cities in imposing a liquor ban amid COVID-19 surge
MANILA, Philippines — Amid a new surge of COVID-19 cases, Navotas has joined three other cities in Metro Manila in imposing a liquor ban.
In a statement on Wednesday, Navotas announced the passage of City Ordinance No. 2021-18, which prohibits selling, delivering, serving, or buying alcoholic drinks in the city starting March 17 until further notice.
Violators of the ban will be fined from P1,000 to P5,000 or be jailed for a day to 10 days.
Before Navotas, Malabon, Muntinlupa, and Mandaluyong announced a liquor ban.
Malabon Mayor Lenlen Oreta, in a Facebook post on Monday, said that the liquor ban would take effect in his city from March 15 to April 3.

In Muntinlupa, the ban will be in effect from March 15 to April 4. Individuals who violate the ban there may face fines up to P5,000, while business establishments that violate the ban could have their business permits revoked.

Earlier, Quezon City also announced a two-week liquor ban.

As of March 17, the Philippines has 635,698 COVID-19 cases, where 561,099 have recovered while 12,866 have died.
