Army major tells Negros Reds to ‘avoid misfortune’, surrender

BACOLOD CITY—The military said a communist rebel was killed in a clash with soldiers in the town of La Libertad, Negros Oriental province on Monday (March 15).

Maj. Cenon Pancito III, public affairs chief of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, said on Wednesday (March 17) that the body of the still unidentified rebel had been found in the clash site.

Also found in the clash site were assault rifles, grenades, backpacks, landmines, mobile phones, solar panel and communist documents.

Pancito said the Army would “mobilize all of our capabilities to make sure that these communist terrorists will not have the opportunity to unleash violence on the island.”

“The recent encounter should serve as a stern warning to the remaining communist terrorist group members in the area to surrender to the folds of the law (sic) to avoid misfortune and death,” he added.
