4 in 5 hospitals with 100% COVID-19 bed occupancy are in Quezon City
MANILA, Philippines — Four in five hospitals in Metro Manila that have already reached 100 percent bed occupancy for COVID-19 patients are located in Quezon City.
This was according to the Department of Health’s (DOH) data as of March 15.
Bernardino General Hospital I, F.Y. Manalo Medical Foundation, Inc., Metro North Medical Center and Hospital, and Rosario Maclang Bautista Hospital in Quezon City were all placed under critical level and have already reached 100 percent bed occupancy based on DOH’s latest data.
Meanwhile, 11 in 19 of 150 hospitals in the National Capital Region (NCR) under critical level are located in Quezon City while two hospitals are in Taguig City as the rest are in Pateros, Muntinlupa, Mandaluyong, Makati, Pasay, and Manila.
DOH classifies occupancy levels for COVID-19 beds in health facilities as either critical, high risk, moderate, or safe.
Those at the critical level have already reached more than 85 percent of their bed occupancy for COVID-19 patients while hospitals classified as high-risk have 70 percent but not more than 85 percent of its COVID-19 beds occupied, and those at the moderate level have 60 to 70 percent COVID-19 beds in use.
As of March 15, there were 20 hospitals placed under the high-risk level. Of the sum, 10 are from Quezon City, namely:
- Allied Care Experts (Ace) Medical Center
- Capitol Medical Center Inc.
- Commonwealth Hospital and Medical Center
- Dr. Fe Del Mundo Medical Center
- FEU- Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation Inc.
- Philippine Heart Center
- Philippine Orthopedic Center
- Quirino Memorial Medical Center
- St. Luke’s Medical Center
- World Citi Medical Center
The remaining hospitals under the same category are from the cities of Manila, San Juan, Makati, Pasig, Parañaque, Valenzuela, and Mandaluyong.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Wednesday said bed occupancy in COVID-19 intensive care units (ICU) and wards in the locality are already hitting “critical” levels.
Belmonte said COVID-19 ICU beds in all hospitals in the city — public, private and government-owned — are already filled up to 78%, while COVID-19 wards are 77% occupied.
Meanwhile, isolation beds are already 68% occupied, which is near the critical level of 70%.
This is out of the total 2,032 hospital beds in Quezon City that are for COVID-19 patients.
As of Wednesday, DOH recorded 4,387 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total active coronavirus cases in the country to 61,733.
Of the tally, 561,099 patients survived while 12,866 succumbed to the respiratory illness caused by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. The country’s total COVID-19 caseload is 635,698 as of March 17.
The health department’s data bared Quezon City as the top city with the highest number of COVID-19 cases with a total of 49,339.
