CEBU CITY—At least 16 women, who brought together women at their villages to help in pandemic response, were given awards by the town of Minglanilla, Cebu province.

Jennifer Lariosa, president of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) in Minglanilla, said the women served their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Celebrating Women’s Month is not about our weaknesses but our strength and empathy toward change,” said Lariosa. “The change that I am talking about is the way society looks at women,” she said.

“We women have a huge contribution in our community,” said Lariosa.

“The success of women empowerment is possible if we, women, are bonded together and share the values and principle on quality, fairness, respect, and love to one another,” she added.

Lariosa said women empowerment is not about making women superior to men, but about supporting and complementing men and especially communities they live in.

The event on Wednesday (March 17) had the theme “Juana Laban sa Pandemya: Kaya”.

Lariosa called on women to help each other for the good of the community.

“I am urging all women who are here and out there, tending their homes, their workplace and with their children. Let us work as one for our community. Let us put aside our diversities, and instead support each other,” she said.

The awardees were Helen Resuelo, Liza Madalara, Hermela Canedo, Lucianoa Laspuna, Ma. Azucena Simene, Abe Sta Maria, Mary Pansit, Sarah Dayoha, Marivic Baritua, Michelle Villarin, Rosario Paragoso, Rosita Zabal, Imelda Bastida, Edith Sellote, Rosalina Amazona, and Baby Rose Paran.
