2 Zambales resorts ordered shut after DepEd seminars there lead to coronavirus infections

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales—Two resorts in the capital town of Iba were ordered to close after COVID-19 cases emerged from meetings and seminars these venues hosted for at least 300 employees of the Department of Education (DepEd) recently.

Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial health director, said at least nine DepEd employees had been infected with SARS Cov2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, while attending seminars in the venues—Funtasea on March 1 to 6 and Bakasyunan on March 9 to 12.

Among those infected were some school division officials and a principal. They reportedly got the virus from a colleague who was present at the seminars.

In a text message, Bueno also said the two resorts violated some COVID-19 health protocols although he did not provide details.

All other DepEd employees, who were exposed to their infected colleagues, were asked to go on home quarantine.
