PH so far vaccinates over 240,000 health workers vs COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines —The Philippines has inoculated more than 240,000 frontliners against COVID-19, vaccine czar Calrito Galvez Jr. said Wednesday, adding that the vaccination of all 1.7 million health workers may be finished by mid-April.

“Nasa ikatlong linggo na po tayo ng ating vaccine rollout, sa kabuuan po meron na tayong 240,297 medical frontliners na nagkaroon na po ng first shot ng bakuna,” Galvez said in an online forum.

(We are now on the third week of our vaccine rollout and overall, we have given the first COVID-19 vaccine dose to 240,297 medical frontliners.)

“Inaasahan po natin matatapos ang pagbabakuna sa ating 1.7 million medical frontliners at health workers pagdating ng kalagitnaan ng Abril,” he added.

(We are expecting to finish the vaccination of our 1.7 million medical frontliners and health workers by the middle of April.)

Once all health workers are vaccinated, Galvez said the government will start inoculating senior citizens, the vulnerable sector, and the indigent population. He reiterated that the vaccination for the general public may by May.

This March, the Philippines is expecting to receive 2.3 million COVID-19 vaccines of which 979,200 are of the brand AstraZeneca from the COVAX facility.

A total of 1.4 million doses of Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine are also arriving by the end of this month.
