CITY OF CALAPAN—Authorities on Tuesday (March 16) locked down at least 13 villages in Mamburao, capital of Occidental Mindoro province, following a surge in COVID-19 cases there.

Mamburao Mayor Angelina Tria requested the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) of the Mimaropa region to approve the lockdown of the villages after 19 new COVID-19 cases had been recorded in one day alone last March 15.

A letter by Wilhelm Suyko, regional IATF chair, said two villages—Poblacion 7 ad Payompon—had been ordered placed on enhanced community quarantine. Nine other villages had been placed on modified community quarantine.

Two villages—Fatima and San Luis—had been placed on general community quarantine.

The provincial government announced last Sunday (March 14) that the capitol would be manned a skeletal workforce starting on Monday (March 15) until March 31 to prevent transmission of SARS Cov2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
