PNP records 34th death due to coronavirus

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday announced that another member of its personnel has succumbed to COVID-19, bringing its death toll up to 34.

In a message to reporters, PNP officer in charge Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said that the personnel who died was a 45-year-old male Police Commissioned Officer (PCO) assigned to the PNP legal service.

Eleazar added that the police officer died on March 14 due to cardiac arrest with COVID-19 as an antecedent cause.

Aside from the additional death, the PNP also reported 103 new COVID-19 infections, bringing its total cases to 12,343, of which 918 are active cases.

Of the total number of cases, 11,391 police personnel have already recovered with 74 new recoveries reported, the PNP said.

As of March 15, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 5,404 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the country’s total active cases to 53,479, as well as the total number of cases to 626,893.
