LUCENA CITY – At least 483 persons were held in the last two days for violating health and safety protocols put in place in Cavite against the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) amid the surge of new virus carriers in the province.
Police Colonel Marlon Santos, Cavite police chief, said the violators were caught in different parts of the province for not wearing face masks or disregarding the curfew hours in their respective localities.
The reports on the arrests were posted by the police public information office on its Facebook page on March 13 and 14.
On March 13, police said 88 COVID-19 protocol violators were accosted and another 395 were reported the next day.
The violators paid fines or did community service.
On March 12, Governor Jonvic Remulla expressed his alarm over the surge of new virus cases in the province that include employees at the provincial capitol.
As of March 12, Cavite has logged 21,961 COVID-19 cases since March last year, with 19,606 recoveries and 585 fatalities.
On March 5, the recorded cases were only 21,035, which indicated a rise of 926 cases in six days. At least 14 of the patients also succumbed to the illness during the same period.
The province still has 1,767 active virus carriers as of March 12.
The Department of Health has started on March 10 the vaccination rollout for health workers in several hospitals in the province.
