LPA spotted eastnortheast of Palawan province
Palawan province is forecast to experience moderate to heavy rain on Sunday as a low-pressure area (LPA) moves west-northwestward of the country, according to a weather bulletin issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
The LPA was located 75 kilometers east-northeast of Puerto Princesa City at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
While there is a low chance that the weather disturbance will intensify into a tropical depression, the weather bureau warned of possible hazards brought by continuous rain.
Raymond Ordinario, weather specialist of the Pagasa, said one possible scenario was that the LPA would traverse Palawan province and emerge as an LPA in the West Philippine Sea.
There is no gale warning at present, but Pagasa said fishermen should watch for moderate waves.
The tail end of the frontal system, or the result of the clash of cold and warm air masses, will bring scattered rain over the Bicol Region and Metro Manila on Sunday.
The combined effects of the weather system and the LPA will also bring rain and cloudy skies in the Visayas area and Zamboanga Peninsula. The rest of Mindanao is expected to have improved weather conditions.
The northeast monsoon or “amihan” is forecast to bring light rain over Cagayan Valley.
