Muntinlupa places 2 areas under 14-day localized lockdown

MANILA, Philippines — Muntinlupa City on Saturday placed two areas with rising COVID-19 cases under localized lockdown.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi ordered that Cruzero St., Villa Carolina 1 in Barangay Tunasan, and 124 Purok 1 in Barangay Cupang be placed under a 14-day extreme localized community quarantine (ELCQ) beginning 6 a.m. of March 13 until 6 a.m. of March 28.

According to Muntinlupa City health officer Dr. Tet Tuliao, said the identified areas have become areas of concern after recording a high attack rate of 150 cases per 1,000 individual population from February 27 to March 6.

Cruzero St. in Tunasan has 24 households with 87 individuals while 124 Purok 1 in Cupang has nine households with 53 individuals, Tuliao said.

The city health office is set to conduct mass testing in the community and will intensify its detection, isolation, and treatment strategies, and contact tracing of close contacts will also be facilitated, Tuliao added.

The local government through the Social Service Department and Barangay will provide additional relief food packs and other basic goods during the enforcement of the ELCQ, the local government said.

As of March 13, Muntinlupa City has 5,868 confirmed cases with 5,483 recoveries, 208 active cases, 177 reported deaths, 55 suspect cases, and 362 probable cases.
