LUCENA CITY – Quezon province has recorded a surge in the number of new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases over the past week, health authorities reported.
From March 6 to 13, a total of 119 new COVID-19 cases were recorded, including 64 active cases and 55 recoveries.
Three patients also perished during the same period.
In its 10 a.m. bulletin Saturday (March 13), the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) disclosed that the present number of active cases is at 189 from only 126 on March 6.
Infanta town in the northern part of the province logged the most number of new cases with 22. The town also has the most number of active virus carriers among all localities in the province with 24.
The local government of Infanta has reminded local residents to strictly follow the minimum safety protocols like wearing of face mask, face shield, and observance of safe distancing to stop the spread of the virus in the locality.
However, the present 189 active virus carriers in the province is still a remarkable drop from the highest tally of 1,119 active cases in the twice-a-day count recorded on Nov. 12 last year.
As of 10 a.m. Saturday, Quezon, which is still under modified general community quarantine, logged 7,424 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic was declared in March last year. A total of 6,971 have recovered, while 264 have perished.
The Department of Health allocated 1,686 doses of Sinovac vaccines, so far, for Quezon province.
