TAGBILARAN CITY—The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) donated nine new laptop computers to the Department of Education (DepEd) in this city on Friday (March 12).
Eight laptops were given to teachers and one laptop to the Division Alternative Learning System (ALS) Focal.
The distribution of laptops is part of Opportunity 2.0, a USAID program to help up to 180,000 youths in the Philippines. The program supports training for mentors in ALS programs in improving learning modules for out-of-school youth.
The new laptops were expected to help mentors deliver instructions to out-of-school youth enrolled in the DepEd’s ALS programs.
“This is in line with our program’s goal to strengthen the capacity of national and local systems to develop, deliver, and monitor the second-chance education programs for our out-of-school youth,” said Loucille Alcala-Dabhi, Opportunity 2.0 youth development coordinator.
City and school officials attended the ceremonial turnover.
Dr. Casiana Caberte, assistant schools division supervisor, expressed thanks to USAID, the city government and other institutions for the laptop donation.
