PH’s COVID-19 active cases top 50,000 anew; per day infections hit another record high at 4,578

MANILA, Philippines — Active COVID-19 cases in the country have again breached the 50,000-mark on Friday as the Philippines likewise logged another record high of 4,578 new infections in a day.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported that COVID-19 active cases nationwide stand at 52,012 – a year after the new coronavirus pandemic was declared on March 11, 2020.

DOH also recorded 87 new deaths, driving the death toll to 12,694. It added that 272 more patients were able to recover from the respiratory illness caused by SARS-CoV-2 boosting the tally of recovered persons to 546,912.

All in all, the Philippines’ COVID-19 case count is now at 611,618.

According to DOH, the 52,012 active cases is 8.5 percent of the total count while the 546,912 recoveries and the 12,694 deaths respectively represent 89.4 percent and 2.08 percent of the tally.

It explained that of the total active cases, 96.3 percent are either mild or asymptomatic.

Meanwhile, DOH said eight duplicate entries, including five recoveries and one death, were removed from the total case count. Twenty-six cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were also reclassified as deaths after final validation.

DOH further said that five laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
