DOJ endorses ‘Bloody Sunday’ case to inter-agency committee
MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Justice (DOJ) will endorse the investigation of the deaths of nine local activists now known as “Bloody Sunday” to the AO 35 Committee.
AO 35 Committee is an Inter-Agency Committee on Extra Legal Killings, Enforced Disappearances, Torture, and Other Grave Violations of the Right to Life, Liberty, and Security of Persons.
“There is sufficient evidence that the victims were members of cause-oriented groups carrying out legitimate dissent,” Guevarra said.
The “bloody Sunday” was joint police and military operation in CALABARZON implementing search warrants that led to nine individuals’ death.
Guevarra earlier expressed disappointment over the continuous killings in police operations.
