MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas tested positive for COVID-19, PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Ildebrandi Usana confirmed on Thursday.

In a statement, Sinas said that his COVID-19 RT-PCR swab test results came out on Thursday morning.  But before that, all his swab tests, including the March 9 results — his second-most recent test — were negative.

He is still asymptomatic or has not experienced any symptoms.

Sinas asked people who might have come in direct contact with him to have themselves tested too and observe themselves for possible infection.

The PNP chief said that while he is recuperating, Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, the PNP’s Deputy Chief for Administration, would be the officer-in-charge.
