PNP buys cameras for facial ID

/ 05:08 AM March 11, 2021

The Philippine National Police has bought 10 rapid deployable closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera systems with facial recognition features that can pick out identified terrorists and criminals from a crowd. Police Maj. Gen. Angelito Casimiro, PNP director for logistics, told reporters on Wednesday that the deployable CCTV systems were equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) and could be used in securing major events. “You can input 200 faces of wanted persons, local or foreign terrorists if we have their files and once the cameras spot them, the AI will alert the nearby control center of their presence in the vicinity,” Casimiro said. —JEANNETTE I.
