Farmer gunned down in Cabanatuan City

CABANATUAN CITY — A farmer, who was reportedly involved in a quarry operation in Nueva Ecija province, was killed by unidentified men in this city on Tuesday evening, police said.

The victim was identified as Norman Garcia, 54, a resident of Barangay Sapang in this city.

An investigation showed that Garcia was driving a black sport utility vehicle in Barangay Mayapyap around 6 p.m. when the assailants opened fire on him.

The gunmen then rode a motorcycle and sped off towards Mayapyap Sur here, the police said.

Investigators said the victim suffered gunshot wounds in different parts of his body. He was taken to a hospital a few kilometers from the crime scene but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The motive behind the attack has yet to be established but the police said Garcia was engaged in quarry activities in nearby General Mamerto Natividad town.

Col. Jaime Santos, Nueva Ecija police director, said investigators would look at the security footage around the crime scene to establish the identity of the assailants. INQ
