LUCENA CITY – The number of active COVID-19 cases in this city dropped to seven as of Saturday from a high of 279 four months ago, the Lucena public information office, citing the latest report from the local Inter-Agency Task Force, announced on social media.
From March 1 to 6, only four new COVID-19 cases were reported in the city.
The highest tally of active cases in the city was 279 on Oct. 21, 2020.
As of March 6, Lucena City, still under the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) status until March 31, has recorded 1,575 COVID-19 cases, with 1,502 recoveries and 66 deaths.
In earlier interview, Mayor Roderick Alcala attributed the remarkable decline in the number of active COVID-19 cases to fewer “pasaway” (stubborn) persons who ignore the rule on mandatory wearing of face mask and physical distancing.
The entire province of Quezon has so far logged 7,305 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic was declared in March last year.
A total of 6,916 have recovered while 263 expired.
The Department of Health has allocated a total of 1,686 doses of Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine in Quezon province.
The Covid-19 vaccine from China’s Sinovac Biotech will be distributed to Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City (1,461); Maria L. Eleazar General Hospital in Tagkawayan town (71); Claro M. Recto Memorial District Hospital in Infanta town in northern part of the province (154).
Local authorities have yet to announce the schedule for the vaccine rollout in the province.
