Returning OFW in Zambales tests positive for COVID-19 after quarantine

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales –– A returning overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) days after she was released from a quarantine facility in Metro Manila.

Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial health director, said the OFW is a 31-year-old woman who arrived in the country on Feb. 22 and underwent the mandatory quarantine.

But after initially testing negative based on her real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test, the woman was discharged from the quarantine facility despite exhibiting some symptoms of the disease, such as cold and fever.

According to Bueno, the woman went home to Castillejos town and was monitored by the Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams.

She underwent another RT-PCR test after experiencing fever and tested positive for COVID-19 this time.

As of March 4, the province has 958 total COVID-19 cases. Nineteen of these are active, 916 recovered, and 22 deaths. INQ
