COVID-19 cases in Quezon province continues to decline

LUCENA CITY –– The number of active coronavirus disease (C)VID-19) cases in Quezon province continued to decline, with 23 of the 27 localities having single-digit figures, a report from the Integrated Provincial Health Office on Friday showed.

In its 10 a.m. bulletin, the IPHO disclosed that the number of active virus carriers in Quezon was down to 126, from 171 on March 1.

The highest tally of 1,119 active cases in the twice-a-day count was recorded on Nov. 12 last year.

Only the cities of Tayabas and Lucena and the towns of Calauag and Tiaong have double-digit active cases.

Tayabas still has 15 active cases, Lucena has 13, Calauag has 12, and Tiaong has 11.

The other 23 localities showed less than 10 active cases, while eight municipalities have one case each, as of March 5.

From March 1 to 5, only 27 new cases were reported, while recoveries almost tripled that number, at 68, during the same period.

In February, the new cases totaled 342 compared to 696 in January.

Last year, the province recorded 845 cases in December, 1,612 in November, and 1,717 in October.

Fourteen of the 41 towns in the province no longer have any active cases as of March 5.

Those previously infected in these localities have either recovered or had died, the report showed.

Quezon, which is still under modified general community quarantine until March 31, logged 7,287 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic was declared in March last year. At least 6,900 have recovered.

The total death toll in the province stood at 261, with 66 of them in Lucena City.
