Truck ban eyed for Talisay

A truck ban to be enforced during weekdays is being considered for implementation by Talisay City officials.

Talisay City Vice Mayor Alan Bucao said an ordinance on a truck ban would be deliberated on in tomorrow’s session.

Bucao said traffic had been a problem especially during peak hours on the city’s major thoroughfares.

He specifically cited the congestion at the city’s flyover near the old Tabunok public market.

Bucao said some trucks aggravated the traffic in these areas during peak hours.

“Cargo trucks, heavy vehicles, fuel tankers, cement bulk carriers, long-bed trailers, container vans and other types of heavy and long vehicles travel during rush hours and aggravate the traffic flow due to their size,” he said.

Bucao said these vehicles that would pass through populated areas like the public market site, City Hall and Tabunoc elementary school would pose danger to the commuting public especially fuel and liquid tankers.

Bucao said the ordinance for the truck ban was also based upon the recommendations of the City of Talisay Traffic Operations and Development Authority (CT-TODA). Based on the ordinance, the truck ban will cover cargo vehicles that has a weight gross of 4,500 kilograms.

The ordinance also includes cargo trucks, lorries, fuel tankers, liquid carriers, LPG/ LNG tankers, cement bulk carriers, long-bed trailers, 10 to 40 footer container vans and tractors and vehicles with more than six wheels.

The ban will be enforced from Monday to Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Banned streets, roads, and bridges are Rabaya street, Polong Deiparine street, Prisco Deiparine street, Sangi Road, Laray, Lagtang- Toledo Wharf road, Sombria- Pooc, and Linao-Mohon Dumlog Road. Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
