‘Journey to new normal’: 14,400 CoronaVac doses for Ilocos arrive in La Union

DAGUPAN CITY—At least 14,400 doses of CoronaVac, the vaccine made by China’s Sinovac company, for the Ilocos region arrived in La Union province on Thursday, authorities said.

At least eight hospitals in the region will get the vaccines, which had been donated by China.

These included he Region I Medical Center (RIMC) here, the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital in Batac City, the Laoag City General Hospital (LCGH) and the Governor Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital (GRBASMH) also in Laoag City.

The vaccines were brought to the regional office of the Department of Health in San Fernando City, La Union around 5 p.m.

“We are happy that the long wait is over. The journey towards new normal is here,” Dr. Valeriano Lopez, director of DOH in Ilocos, said at an online press conference.

“We hope the vaccines will continue coming until we can go back to where we used to be, or at least to a new normal. We still ask people to practice minimum health protocols,” he said.

The mass vaccination program in the region targets over 7,000 health workers.
