MANILA, Philippines — Areas within and near the extreme northern Luzon are likely to experience rain on Wednesday, state meteorologists said, noting that it will be caused by a weak northeast monsoon or amihan.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its Tuesday afternoon forecast that the weak episode of the northeast monsoon is expected to interact with the warm winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean or easterlies and create a tail end of a frontal system or cold front.
This in turn would bring rain over the extreme northern Luzon area, including Cagayan province.
It will be a warm and humid Wednesday, however, for the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila and its nearby provinces.
According to Pagasa, Tuguegarao and Laoag’s temperature will slightly dip because of the northeast monsoon – possibly hitting 22 to 29 degrees Celsius and 23 to 30 degrees Celsius, respectively.
But Metro Manila, Legazpi, and Puerto Princesa may anticipate a climate of around 23 up to 32 degrees Celsius tomorrow, March 3.
In Visayas and Mindanao, Pagasa said similar conditions may prevail as Iloilo and Cebu will experience 24 to 32 degrees Celsius temperature; Tacloban, 24 to 31 degrees Celsius; Zamboanga and Davao, 24 to 34 degrees Celsius; and Cagayan de Oro, 23 to 31 degrees Celsius.
As for sea conditions in the country, the state weather bureau raised a gale warning over waters off Batanes and the Babuyan Islands due to amihan, predicting rough to very rough seas in these areas.
