COVID-19 gives Ilocos Norte reprieve with no new case in 4 days

LAOAG CITY—Ilocos Norte got a reprieve from COVID-19 since Feb. 26, seeing zero case so far.

In a 10 p.m. bulletin on Monday (March 1), provincial government records showed no new COVID-19 case. Two had recovered from the disease, the records showed.

So far, the province has recorded 778 total cases since 2020 and 20 of these remained active.

Despite its zero-case streak in the past four days, it remained unclear whether Ilocos Norte would relax its restrictions for travellers and returning residents.

On Feb. 28, the provincial government announced that it would post an updated travel guideline to heed the national COVID-19 task force’s instruction for all local governments to have uniform travel protocol.

As of Tuesday (March 2), the updated guideline from the provincial government has yet to be released.

Ilocos Norte’s neighboring province, Ilocos Sur, had already eased travel protocols for returning residents and visitors since March 1.
