Norway royals among 135 evacuated from plane
COPENHAGEN—Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon and his wife, Mette-Marit, were among 135 passengers evacuated from an SAS airliner Sunday after an engine blew up during take-off, Danish media reported.
The passengers had to slide down emergency chutes when smoke billowed into the passenger cabin after a loud bang came from one of the engines on the McDonnell-Douglas MD-82, the Politiken daily said on its website.
Mikkel Thrane, a spokesman for the Scandanavian airline, said “an engine problem caused smoke to enter the cabin.”
The pilot aborted the take-off and the passengers were evacuated quickly.
Nobody was injured in the incident at Copenhagen’s Kastrup international airport.
Haakon said on Twitter shortly afterwards: “Morning turned out a bit more exciting than expected…Phew.”
