MANILA, Philippines — Quezon 4th District Rep. Angelina Tan on Tuesday received a dose of the Covid-19 vaccine from Chinese drugmaker Sinovac BioTech, making her the first lawmaker to get immunized against the deadly respiratory disease.

Tan, who heads the House of Representatives’ committee on health and is also a doctor, was administered the shot at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center.

This is part of her eldest son’s allocation for the family as a surgeon at the hospital, she explained.

“Huwag tayong matakot magpabakuna, protektahan natin ang isa’t-isa upang sabay-sabay nating malagpasan ang pandemya [Let’s not be scared of getting the vaccine, let’s protect one another so we can overcome this pandemic],” Tan said in a statement.

“Let’s support the government’s vaccination program and help stop the Covid-19 pandemic,” she added.

The government’s Covid-19 vaccination program kicked off on Monday after receiving 600,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccine, which were donated by the Chinese government.
