2,037 more contract COVID-19 hiking tally of active infections to 31,708

MANILA, Philippines — Some 2,037 more people in the country have contracted the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19), boosting the number of active patients to 31,708, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Monday.

According to the health agency, the 31,708 active cases represent 5.5 percent of the recorded nationwide 578,381 COVID-19 infections as of March 1.

It also said that most patients or 89.3 percent who were categorized under active cases have shown only mild symptoms while 5.0 percent were asymptomatic. It further noted that 2.3 percent of active cases manifested severe symptoms as 2.5 percent were in critical condition.

DOH also said the country posted 86 coronavirus-positive individuals who were able to recover from the respiratory illness as well as four new fatalities, increasing total recovered patients and deaths to 534,351 and 12,094, respectively.

Just the previous week, active COVID-19 cases in the country reached 37,093 before a considerable number of recovered patients cut it down to 29,763 on Sunday.

DOH said that 1,063 of the positive cases reported Monday came from test results received on February 21.

One laboratory was not able to submit its data to the COVID-19 Data Repository System on Sunday, DOH added, further explaining that eight duplicate entries were removed from the Philippines’ total case count, including six cases of recovered patients that were entered twice in the data archive.
