PNP kicks off vaccination drive

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police on Monday kicked off its first vaccinations as part of the country’s inoculation campaign.

PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas said there were 800 vaccines allotted for PNP health workers.

Sinas said the highest ranking PNP official to receive a COVID-19 vaccine would be the director of health service Brig. Gen. Luisito Magnaye and his command group.

“Ang buong liderato ng PNP, kami sana ang mauna, however, the instruction of DOH (Department of Health) is very specific unahin muna ang health workers,” he said in the symbolic vaccination ceremony.

The Philippines started vaccinations using Sinovac Biotech doses donated by China. It is the last in Southeast Asia to receive its initial set of vaccines.

The Philippine government received 600,000 doses of CoronaVac on Sunday, which were welcomed by President Rodrigo Duterte and other Cabinet officials at the Villamor Air Base.
