Active Covid-19 cases in Quezon drops from 1,119 to 171 in 3 months

LUCENA CITY – From the highest tally of 1,119 active Covid-19 cases daily more than three months ago, the present number of patients in Quezon province went down to 171 on Feb. 27.

Records of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) show that the highest tally of 1,119 active cases in the twice-a-day count was recorded on Nov. 12 last year. It dropped to 343 on Feb. 1, even after the holiday season, and further fell to 164 on Feb. 25 which is the lowest recorded daily tally of active cases.

In its 10 a.m. bulletin on Saturday (Feb. 27), the IPHO disclosed that the number of active virus carriers in Quezon is down to only 171.

The IPHO continued to record a downward trend of new Covid-19 cases in the province.

From Feb. 1 to 26, a total of only 332 cases have so far been recorded.

Last month, the province recorded 696 Covid-19 cases; December (845), November (1,612), and October (1,717).

In an earlier interview, Janet Geneblazo, Quezon public information officer, attributed the continued drop of Covid-19 cases in the province to the strict compliance of the people to all safety and health protocols that aim to prevent the spread of the virus.

Lucena City, the provincial capital, now has only 17 active cases, which peaked at 279 on Oct. 21 last year.

Quezon which is still under a modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) until March 31, logged 7,246 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic was declared in March last year, but at least 6,822 have recovered.

The total Covid-19 death toll in the province rose to 253 after a validated virus carrier in Sariaya town was listed as the latest fatality on Feb. 27.
