LUCENA CITY – The Covid-19 death toll in Batangas province has soared to 407, authorities said Friday (Feb. 26).
The Batangas Provincial Public Information Office, citing the latest bulletin from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) on Feb. 26 at 3 p.m., disclosed that two validated virus carriers in Batangas City and Rosario town have died. The day before, a Covid-19 patient in Laurel town also died.
On Feb. 22, the PHO also reported the deaths of three Covid-19 patients in Santo Tomas City and the towns of Malvar and Rosario.
No details on the latest fatalities were given.
The PHO report said a total of 43 virus carriers had succumbed to the illness since the start of 2021. Last year, the province recorded 364 Covid-19 fatalities.
The province of Batangas, which will remain under the strict general community quarantine (GCQ) status until March 31, has recorded a total of 12,937 cases with the addition of 45 new Covid-19 patients on Friday, and 12,222 recoveries since the pandemic was declared in March last year.
Batangas City, the provincial capital, recorded the highest number of cases with 2,521 followed by Lipa City with 1,493.
The province has 308 remaining active virus carriers, topped by Lipa City with 51, followed by Batangas City, 50.
At least 69 of the validated virus carriers were confined in different hospitals, 166 in non-health facilities or community isolation centers, while 73 were on home quarantine as of Feb. 26, the report showed.
The province has also listed 693 active suspected virus carriers and 16 active probable cases.
Out of 30 towns and four cities of the province, the towns of Agoncillo, Alitagtag, Balete, Lobo, Nasugbo, Taal, and Tuy are now considered virus-free as they no longer have any active cases as of Feb. 26.
Those previously infected in these localities have either recovered or have died, the report showed.
