MANILA, Philippines — A majority of personnel from Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said they are willing to get inoculated against coronavirus disease, the Department of the Interior and Local Government said Friday.
Citing a survey conducted during a town hall meeting on the vaccine, DILG spokesman Jonathan Malaya said “84% of the fire and jail officers in Luzon are ready to get a COVID-19 vaccine; 12% are not sure, and only 4% are not likely to get vaccinated.”
Meanwhile, Malaya said the fire and prison personnel will disseminate accurate information on vaccination benefits.
“Inaasahan natin na ating mga kasamahang bumbero at jail officers na maging aktibong kabahagi natin sa ating kampanya para mabakunahan ang 75-milyong adult Filipinos sa ating bansa,” Malaya said in a statement.
(We hope that our firemen and jail officers will be active in our campaign for the vaccination of all Filipinos.)
The national government said the donated Sinovac vaccines from China will arrive at the Philippines over the weekend.
Meanwhile, health experts as well as the task force against emerging infectious disease have recommended the use of Sinovac on health workers. But experts clarified that medical workers will not get vaccinated without their consent.
