AFP aims to vaccinate 100 personnel daily vs Covid-19

MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is aiming to vaccinate 100 of its personnel daily once the Covid-19 vaccines arrive, its spokesperson Maj. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said Friday.

“Ang target po natin ay makapagbakuna tayo ng 100 personnel kada isang araw,” Arevalo said in a televised briefing.

Some 100,000 doses of the 600,000 Sinovac vaccines donated by the Chinese government had been allotted to the AFP. These will arrive in the country on Sunday, Feb. 28.

Arevalo said they already have 72 vaccination teams that will be deployed across 47 vaccination sites inside military camps with treatment facilities.

“Doon naman po sa mga lugar kung saan walang treatment facility na mga kampo, may koordinasyon po tayong ginagawa sa mga local government units at sa lokal na Department of Health,” he explained.

Vaccination for members of the AFP is compulsory, Arevalo said. They can also choose their own preferred vaccine brand, but the cost will not be shouldered by the AFP.
