Man wanted for sex crimes in Bahrain falls in Cavite

MANILA, Philippines — A Bahraini national wanted for sex crimes in his country has been arrested in Cavite, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported Thursday.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said 43-year-old Alsendi Waleed Abdulla Hamad was arrested in Barangay San Francisco in Dasmariñas City, Cavite on February 23, Tuesday.
Morente said he issued a mission order for Hamad’s arrest after the Department of Justice (DOJ) instructed the BI to verify the presence and status of the Bahraini national in the Philippines and, if warranted, to initiate deportation proceedings against him.
The BI commissioner said Hamad is the subject of an arrest warrant by the public prosecutor’s office of Bahrain for sexual assault and possession of pornographic materials.
An Interpol, likewise, issued a red notice against Hamad two years ago, Morente added.
Information from BI shows that Hamad fled to the Philippines in March 2016, after being accused of sexually assaulting a female victim in his apartment.
“He will be summarily deported as his presence here and record as a sex offender pose a serious threat to our people,” Morente said.
Currently, Hamad is detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending issuance of the order for his deportation by the bureau’s board of commissioners.
He will also be placed in the immigration blacklist and banned from re-entering the Philippines.
