MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has recorded 1,557 additional new Covid-19 infections, raising the total case count to 566,420 on Wednesday.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), 30, 970 or 5.5 percent of this sum are active cases.

Moreover, DOH said 392 more patients managed to recover from the respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 while 22 others failed to survive it. These latest records brought the total number of recovered patients to 523,321, and the death toll to 12,129.

DOH modified the country’s Covid-19 tally as it removed two cases, including one recovery case, that were detected as duplicates while 11 patients that were reported to have recovered from the illness were reclassified as fatalities “after final validation.”
