MANILA, Philippines — The Navotas City Hall was placed under lockdown after 24 local government employees got the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), City Mayor Toby Tiangco said Wednesday.
“Sa tala ng ating Navotas City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, umabot na sa 24 na mga kawani ng pamahalaang lungsod ang nagpositibo,” Tiangco wrote in a Facebook post.

“Dahil dito, kailangan po nating maglockdown ng city hall, kabilang na ang Navotas City Hall Annex (kasama ang NavoServe) at Franchising Permits Processing Unit mula 23 February, 8:01PM, hanggang sa Linggo, 28 February, 11:59PM,” he added.
(Because of this, we will impose lockdown on city hall, including its Annex building and Franchising Permits Processing Unit from Feb. 23 at 8:01 p.m. until February 28 at 11:59 p.m.)
Tiangco said the infected employees were detected because they underwent swab tests over the weekend due to some city hall workers who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 last Sunday, Feb. 22.
Transactions at the city hall such as business permit issuance and other payments will be suspended for now, the mayor said.
Tiangco, likewise, assured residents that they will extend the deadline for government transactions until March 5.
“Sa mga may babayaran na ang deadline ay sa 28 Pebrero 2021, wag po kayong mag-alala. Hihilingin po natin sa Sanggunian na magpasa ng ordinansa ng extension ng pagbabayad hanggang 5 Marso 2021 nang walang penalty at surcharge,” he said.
(For those with Feb. 28 deadline, let’s not worry. We will ask our council to pass ordinances for the extension of payments until March 5 so that there will be no penalty or surcharge.)
To date, the city logged a total of 5,498 total Covid-19 cases, including 165 active cases, 187 deaths and 5,850 recoveries.
