TUGUEGARAO CITY –– A 29-year-old Army soldier was shot and killed by a colleague inside their detachment during a drinking session in Alcala town, Cagayan province on Monday.

The victim was identified as Sgt. Paulino Gavino Jr., a member of the 77th Infantry Battalion (IB) who resides in Isabela province, according to Major Jekyll Julian Dulawan, 5th Infantry Division spokesperson.

Cpl. Rickson Rulloda, 32, also of 77th IB surrendered to their chief.

Investigators said the two soldiers had an altercation following a dispute over their duty deployment.

Rulloda was reportedly irked and shot Gavino with a Glock 17 service firearm, hitting the latter’s abdomen.

Gavino was declared dead on arrival at a hospital. Rulloda will face criminal and administrative charges. INQ
