MANILA, Philippines — An additional 2,288 new COVID-19 cases recorded as of Monday, February 22, brought the total number of patients with active infections to 28,488, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

According to DOH’s COVID-19 bulletin, the total number of cases jumped to 563,456, with 5.1 percent of it considered active cases.  As for recoveries, 33 more recovered patients pushed the total count to 522,874 or 92.8 percent of all the cases recorded.

However, six new deaths mean that the death toll is now at 12,094.

Still, most of the patients, or 88.1 percent of those with active infections, have mild symptoms, while 5.7 percent were asymptomatic or did not feel any symptoms.  But 2.6 percent of the patients currently have severe symptoms, while another 2.87percent is in critical condition.

DOH also said that 1,103 of the positive cases tallied on Monday came from test results received on Sunday, February 21.

Six laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Data Repository System on Sunday.  Also, DOH said that one duplicate entry was removed from the total case count, while two recoveries were reclassified as deaths after further validation.
