TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines — At least 502 people were evacuated in Candijay town in Bohol on Saturday before Tropical Storm Auring would cross the Visayas region.

“We urged (other) residents in areas prone to landslide and flood to seek shelter in the evacuation sites before Auring’s fury intensifies even further,” said Jeryl Lacang- Fuentes, Candijay disaster risk reduction and management officer.

“It might be difficult for us to rescue them if the water becomes waist-deep,” she added.

Lacang said the municipal government has conducted pre-emptive evacuation due to the risk of landslides and floods.

The Candijay police also helped in transporting the evacuees.

Fuentes said the local government headed by Mayor Christopher Tutor provided goods for the affected families.
