Based on Pagasa’s latest data, Auring was last spotted at 440 kilometers east Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
Auring packed maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
The tropical storm was also monitored moving northwestward at 15 kph.
Pagasa said that Auring was forecast to continue moving generally northwestward throughout the forecast period.
“Its center is forecast to make landfall over the Dinagat-Homonhon-Leyte area on Sunday evening or Monday early morning then cross Visayas and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan),” Pagasa added.
State meteorologists added that Auring is more likely to weaken to tropical depression before it makes landfall over Caraga.
“It will likely further weaken to [a] low-pressure area by Monday due to significant terrain interaction and persistent vertical wind shear during this passage over the archipelago,” Pagasa added.
