Pasay City places 33 villages, business establishments under 14-day lockdown

MANILA, Philippines — Thirty-three barangays (villages) and at least one business establishment in Pasay City were placed under a strict lockdown for 14 days following a rise in coronavirus disease cases in the past several months, city government said Saturday.

“At least 33 barangays and one business establishment were also already locked down for 14 days starting yesterday (Feb. 19) due to the spike in the number of Covid cases,” the Pasay Public Information Office said in a statement.

The Pasay City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit has recorded 15 new cases per day from October 2020 to February 2021 and 14 new cases per day from January 2021 to February 18, 2021.

The Pasay City Health Office also reported 269 active cases on Feb. 18, 2021.

The city government said barangays with three or more active cases will be placed under lockdown.

The Pasay City government, however, did not mention what specific business establishments were placed on lockdown due to the virus surge.

The Philippine National Police, barangay officials, Pasay City Environment and Natural Resources Office, the Tricycle-Pedicab Franchising and Regulatory Office, and the Traffic and Parking Management Office will enforce health rules in the barangays under lockdown, the Pasay City government said.

The Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) inspection teams will also inspect the health compliance of establishments, the local government added.
