Quezon Covid-19 death toll rises to 246

LUCENA CITY – Health authorities in Quezon have recorded three more coronavirus disease (Covid-19) deaths, bringing the total death toll in the province to 246.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), in its 10 a.m. bulletin Saturday (Feb. 20), disclosed that a validated Covid-19 patient in Tagkawayan town was listed as the latest fatality.

On Feb 18 and Feb. 17, the towns of Candelaria and Lucban recorded the death of one Covid-19 patient each. No details were given about the fatalities.

Records showed that at least 22 Covid-19 fatalities were recorded in February.

Quezon, which remains under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), has logged 7,184 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic was declared in March last year. At least 6,746 patients have recovered as of Feb. 20.

The number of Covid-19 cases in Quezon continues to drop, IPHO records showed.

A total of only 270 fresh cases have been recorded from Feb. 1 to 10 a.m. Feb. 20. The number of recovered patients during the same period reached 400.

In January, the province logged 696 Covid-19 cases; in December 845; November (1,612), and October (1,717).

The number of active Covid-19 cases has also dropped to 192. On Feb. 18, the number fell to 187, its lowest daily tally.

The province’s highest tally of active cases was on Nov. 12, 2020, with 1,119 cases. It dropped to 343 on Feb. 1, even after the holiday season.

Lucena, the provincial capital, has only 25 active cases remaining.

The highest daily tally of active virus carriers in this city was 279 on Oct. 21 last year, which then dropped to 51 on Feb. 1.
