MARAWI CITY—Fire destroyed a structure that served as a temporary school building here late on Thursday (Feb. 18), according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The fire broke out around 6 p.m. in the structure that served as a temporary building of Dansalan National High School inside a resettlement site for more than 2,000 families who lost their homes during the war between terrorists and government forces in Marawi City in 2017.
FO2 Japar Macalaba said the fire was put under control after 20 minutes by firefighters from the Lanao del Sur provincial government and Saguiaran town.
Macalaba said the fire spread fast and razed the structure which was made of light materials.
He said an investigation has started. No one was inside the structure when the fire broke out. “It was not also used by the students since there were no face-to-face classes,” Macalaba said.
No one was reported hurt during the fire, but books and learning modules were destroyed, Macalaba said.
The school has more than 300 students in junior and senior high school for the school year 2020-2021.
