BOC seizes P50M worth of cigarettes declared as furniture from China
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Port of Cagayan de Oro, through its Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) intercepted two container vans containing smuggled cigarettes from China valued at P50 million.
The shipment consigned to LMRC 418 Direct Import Export Corp. arrived on February 14 at the Mindanao Container Terminal in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, the BOC said in a press statement on Friday.
BOC said a pre-lodgement control order was issued by District Collector John Simon of the Port of Cagayan de Oro as recommended by the CIIS after receiving “derogatory information” about the shipment.
“Upon inspection, the shipment which was declared as furniture was found to actually contain smuggled cigarettes branded as Marvels and Two Moon,” the BOC said.
A warrant of seizure and detention has been issued for the shipment which will be scheduled for destruction, according to the bureau.
