Rainy weekend over parts of PH as ‘Auring’ intensifies into tropical storm
MANILA, Philippines — Tropical cyclone Auring, which has intensified into a tropical storm midday Thursday, could bring heavy rainfall over parts of the country this weekend, the state weather bureau said.
The storm continued to move northwestward slowly, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its latest bulletin.
Auring was expected to bring heavy rains in these areas over the weekend through Monday: Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Bicol Region, Calabarzon, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Mindoro Provinces, Marinduque, Romblon, Northern Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo Islands.
Storm Signal No. 1 may be raised over Caraga and Davao regions as early as Friday, ahead of its expected landfall over the weekend.
Auring was last spotted 685 kilometers east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 80 kph.
