Graver charge vs suspect sought

Connie Hina, the mother of the victim of a violent robbery inside the University of the Philippines Diliman campus wants a graver charge against the suspect, but an assistant city prosecutor said it’s robbery resulting to serious physical injury, a police official said.

“In our referral to the court, like what the mother also wants, we filed frustrated murder against the suspect, but it was the fiscal’s assessment of the case and indicted him for serious physical injury, according to Senior Supt. Macapagal said the suspect, Carlo Pelayo, underwent inquest proceedings on Thursday night and was detained at the station’s jail.

He said Pelayo who admitted to have struck the victim, Lordei Camille Anjuli Hina, 20, with a trophy on the head was also charged with robbery and illegal possession of a bladed weapon.

He said that a manhunt operation was launched against Pelayo’s cohort, a certain Danmar Vicencio, who acted as a lookout when Pelayo went inside the University Student Council Office.
