MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Mindanao may enter the Philippine area of responsibility by Wednesday and may develop into a tropical depression, to be called Auring, the state weather bureau said Tuesday.
“Itong LPA ay inaasahan na pumasok sa [Philippine area of responsibility] PAR bukas,” Ana Clauren, weather specialist for the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview.
If the LPA develops to tropical depression Auring, this will be the first storm to enter the country in 2021.
“Pangalan po niya ay Auring, pero LPA pa lang ang nakikita namin pagpasok (It will be named Auring, but this will enter the country as an LPA first.),” Clauren said.
“Sa ngayon, nakikita pa lang natin hanggang tropical depression category kung sakaling magiging bagyo,” she added when pressed if the LPA may further intensify.
(For now, we see it as tropical depression category should it develop to a storm.)
The LPA will bring rains over the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao should this enter the PAR, Clauren said.
Earlier, Pagasa said that the northeast monsoon or amihan is affecting weather conditions in Metro Manila and most parts of Luzon, while the tail-end of a frontal system will bring cloudy skies with chance of rains over Visayas and Mindanao.
